This year, the German Ruhr area is cultural capital of Europe, as one of AVL-Ville 2001 franchises we have now created Motel Bochum for Ruhr2010. Various units of ‘Motel Bochum’ contain overnight accommodation and a stage with the motel’s own entertainment program, showing exquisite acts from the pioneer set. All is situated just of the A40 highway in Bochum.
Concerts, shows and performances between road movie, red light, Ruhr and low-riding every Friday on the stage of Motel Bochum – surrounded by the biggest tuner meeting of the Ruhr area. Current program and motel bookings at www.ruhr2010.de/b1-a40

New work: Ear Hangers, a small sculpture to wear
Atelier Van Lieshout and Elisabetta Cipriani are pleased to announce the launch of Atelier Van Lieshout’s “Ear Hangers”, an artist’s commision to create a sculpture to wear. “Ear Hangers”, is a limited edition of 10 pair of earrings, made of 18ct yellow gold with black rhodium, each signed and numbered by the artist.

New exhibition: Das Haus
After the large solo exhibition Die Stadt der Sklaven, Atelier Van Lieshout now presents the large retrospective Das Haus in Ludwig Forum, Aachen. It will be the largest overview of Atelier Van Lieshout's work from the early '80 till now. AVL installs thematic rooms, that offer a retrospective walk through AVL's most significant works, from machines to bad furniture, from biogas installations to mobile homes, and from sculptures to weapons. The works are thematically organized which makes it possible to understand the works of AVL as a 'big Saga'.

The exhibition will be on show from 13 September 2008 till 11 January 2009.

This week Atelier Van Lieshout presents a new publication, SlaveCity. It is a large overview of inks on canvas Joep van Lieshout made of life and work in the dystopian metropolis SlaveCity. The catalogue accompanies the first solo exhibition in Albion Gallery in London, SlaveCity . The exhibition shows the inks on canvas of SlaveCity . Alongside the paintings several models of the city are exhibited.

Exhibition: Furniture
Atelier Van Lieshout exhibits furniture in Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London. The pieces, such as Infrastructure Coffee Table, Technocrat bronze Coffee Table, and Family Lamp, are inspired by art projects of AVL, SlaveCity and the Technocrat. On show till 28th November.

New work: Board Room
SlaveCity´s board of directors table manages the futuristic distopian metropolis which has been evolving since 2005. The installation consists of a table with chairs layed with Mexican crockery. Every set consists of four plates, which all depict scenes from SlaveCity.

Verbeke Foundation, Kemzeke, Belgium
This house takes its shape from the human digestive system. While CasAnus is anatomically correct, the last part has been inflated to humongous size. CasAnus is made to function as a hotel, including a bed and a bathroom.
