Pre historic Works, 1983-1984

The first functional objects Joep van Lieshout made are Boat, 1983, Sofa, 1983, Operation Table, 1984.
During art school, Joep van Lieshout made several functional objects, such as Boat, Sofa and Operation Table. The Sofa was made for scientists and philosophers. In the table a concealed gun was hided that shoots back wards. The Operation Table was made to cure people, but it looks like a worn out butcher’s block, customized for obscure pleasures. These objects already contained the contradiction between the rational and the irrational.
